If you are a fan of craft beer, you won’t want to miss out on the 6th Annual Local Craft Brewfest taking place on November 20th. At this fun event, you can try unlimited tastings from dozens of local craft breweries, distilleries, meaderies, cideries and artisan beverage brewers as well as local food producers.
Enjoying a Taste of Boston’s Best
In addition to providing residents and visitors with the opportunity to try some of Boston’s best brews and foods, the Local Craft Brewfest strives to help further the goals of the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) of Massachusetts. The mission of the SBN is to engage business and community leaders in building economies that are local, fair and eco-friendly. As such, an essential component is to build a strong economy that boasts a vibrant and diverse local food system. By featuring local breweries and food vendors, the festival helps to raise awareness about the many great locally grown and produced products in the area. Furthermore, the event helps to encourage consumers, vendors and food and beverage producers to “Think Local First.”
In terms of the initiative, “local” foods are primarily defined as those that are grown and produced in Massachusetts. Those that are grown and produced in New England and eastern New York state are also included, including local and independent food producers and entrepreneurs.
To achieve its goal, the SBN Local Food Committee has developed seven specific initiatives to help raise awareness about local foods and products. In addition to the Local Craft Brewfest, the organization also sponsors the Boston Local Food Festival. The Local Craft Brewfest ties into some of the same objective as the Boston Local Food Festival, which was held on September 20th, as serving size local food dishes will be available for purchase at the event for $6 or less.
