The Museum of Fine Arts Boston will once again be hosting its Art in Bloom festivities in 2016. This year marks the 40th year of the annual event, which will include a wide variety of displays focused around the theme of art and floral design. While the event itself is free to attend with admission, there are several ticked events taking place throughout the event that you might enjoy.
Taking place on April 29th from 5:00 until 9:30 pm, the sneak peek will provide early visitors with a first look at the 51 freshly installed arrangements. Visitors can also take a self-guided tour or can enjoy dinner and cocktails at one of the museum’s restaurants.
Hitomi Gilliam: Master Class
Taking place on April 30th and May 1st from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm, the Hitomi Gilliam: Master Class will provide hands-on instruction in flower design from a master of contemporary floral design. Member cost: $225. Nonmember cost: $270.
Hitomi Gilliam: NeoFlora: A Fresh Look at the Art of Flowers
The Hitomi Gilliam: NeoFlora: A Fresh Look at the Art of Flowers class will take place on April 30th from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in Remis Auditorium. The program will offer a floral demonstration and lecture by Hitomi Gilliam. The workshop will explore the latest methods, techniques and mechanics for designing and exciting flowers. Member cost: $60. Nonmember cost: $70.
Celebrate Art in Bloom with Ikebana
Taking place on April 30th from 3:00 until 4:00 pm in Alfond Auditorium, Celebrate Art in Bloom with Ikebana will give you the opportunity to join floral designers from the schools of Ikenobo, Sogetsu and Ohara while creating designs showcasing the design concepts from each school.
A special members-only viewing event will take place on April 30th from 6:00 until 9:00 pm. During this event, members can tour the exhibits while also enjoying entertainment, shopping and dining opportunities.
Elegant Tea will also take place on April 30th, May 1st and May 2nd from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, with guests combined at tables with other guests as needed. Member cost: $35. Nonmember cost: $40. Children 12 and Under: $10.
Art in Bloom is open during the regular museum hours of 10:00 am until 4:45 pm. The event is free with museum admission and no reservations are necessary to see the floral arrangements or to participate in any of the programs.
Art in Bloom Community Day
Taking place on May 1st from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, the Art in Bloom Community Day is a celebration of family-friendly programming and entertainment.
Organic Gardening: Global, Regional, Local, Individual
David Pendergast of Agora Gardens will offer the Organic Gardening: Global, Regional, Local and Individual workshop on May 1st from 3:00 until 4:00 in Alfond Auditorium. The workshop will focus on returning to healthy methods of growing food, including learning why organic gardening and building community gardens is important.
Creative Sustainability on The Rose Kennedy Greenway
Taking place on May 2nd from 11:00 am until noon join senior horticulturalist and designer Darrah Cole in Remis Auditorium, Creative Sustainability on The Rose Kennedy Greenway visual tour of the Greenway parks.
