If you love art, creativity and the unexpected, ArtWeek Boston offers the perfect opportunity to explore all of the wonderful artsy fun that Boston has to offer. Made possible by the Citi Performing Arts Center, ArtWeek Boston offers ten days of events throughout the city from September 25th through October 4th. Here’s a look at some of the events taking place during this year’s event.
“If I Ran the Zoo” Flower Show
Taking place at the Heritage Museums and Gardens, the “If I Ran the Zoo” Flower Show is presented by annual by members of the award-winning Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Southeastern District Design and Horticulture Study Group. At the event, you will have the opportunity to see creative floral designs, educational displays, seasonal horticulture and artistic crafts. In accordance with the theme, all designers and growers will gain their inspiration from animals.
The “If I Ran the Zoo” flower show will take place September 25, 26 and 27 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. The Heritage Museums and Gardens are located at 67 Grove Street in Sandwich, Massachusetts.
Chou’s Paint/Plaster Prints
Taiwan artist Chou Yu-Chen will provide opportunities to see her work at The Quarry. Yu-Chen combines ancient and modern techniques to create award-winning detailed prints. Currently an artist-in-residence at The Quarry, Yu-Chen’s works were shown in a 2014 exhibit at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan. The ArtWeek event provides visitors with the opportunity to witness the work of a master of both ancient and modern print-making techniques.
The Chou’s Paint/Plaster Prints event will take place September 25, 26, 27 and 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. The Quarry is located at 68 Quarry Road in Acton, Massachusetts.
Make a Fused Glass Pendant
If you want to get in on the creative action, you might want to participate in the Make a Fused Glass Pendant event. During this interactive glass fusing workshop, you will be provide with glass and materials from Pompei Stained Glass as you are introduced to the process of creating fused glass art. You will then have the opportunity to make a fused glass pendant or other art piece of your choosing.
The free event, which takes place on October 3rd from 1:00 until 3:00 pm, is limited to just six participants. The workshop will take place in the Pompei Stained Glass working studio, which is located at 122 Western Avenue Unit A416 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Hosted by HUBweek, the free nighttime Illuminus festival will feature artists, designers, performers and creative technologists as they showcase their imaginative works. The event attracted over 10,000 visitors in its first year and featured over 40 projects from across the region. The Illuminus festival will take place on October 3 and 4 near Fenway Park on Lansdowne Street in Boston.
