For comic book fans everywhere, attending a comic con is a thrill like no other. This is particularly true when it comes to the Boston Comic Con, which has grown significantly since its founding in 2007. To that end, here’s a little of what you need to know about this fun and exciting upcoming event.
The History of the Boston Comic Con
Founded on March 18, 2007, the Boston Comic Con is an independently run comic book convention that is held each year in Boston in August. Originally started as a one-day show held at the Back Bay Events Center, the comic con grew to become a two-day event in 2009 and then to a three-day event in 2014. In 2010, the Boston Comic Con was moved to the Westin Waterfront Hotel and then to the Hynes Convention Center the following year. While the comic con was canceled in 2013 due to the Boston Marathon Bombing, it returned the following year and was hosted in the Seaport Hotel and Seaport Trade Center. This is where the comic con continues to be held today.
Exploring the Boston Comic Con
While the Boston Comic Con’s primary focus is on comic books, the convention also features guests from television and film as well as cosplayers. Other features of the Boston Comic Con include an art auction, an annual costume contest and a tabletop/CCG/RPG gaming room. A number of notable events have also occurred at the Boston Comic con. For example, Chef Paul Wahlberg filmed a segment of his reality show called the Wahlburgers at the comic con. The episode aired on February 11, 2015. The Boston Red Sox also hosted an inaugural “Boston Comic Con Night” on July 30, 2015 while Mayor Marty Walsh appeared at the Comic Con on August 1, 2015 to declare Stan Lee Day in honor of the director’s appearance at the Boston Comic Con.
