Massachusetts Military Heroes Garden of Flags Memorial Day Services

Every year, the Massachusetts Military Heroes organization plants 37,000 flags in front of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common. Known as the Garden of Flags, the display is meant to commemorate each of the Massachusetts service members who lost their lives defending the United States since the Revolutionary War. The flags will be put out on Wednesday, May 25th at 1:00 pm and will remain in place through until Sunday on Monday, May 30th. A ceremony honoring those service members who were lost in Iraq and Afghanistan will be held on Thursday, May 26th at 10:30 am.

Back Bay Fens Memorial Day Service

2016 will mark the 70th Annual Memorial Day service to take place at the Veterans Memorial Park in the Back Bay Fens in the Fenway neighborhood. The event will take place on Saturday, May 28th at 11:00 am. Also referred to as the Sergeant Charles Andrew MacGillivary Memorial in honor of a local hero, Veterans Memorial Park is a tranquil green space characterized by monuments commemorating those who fought in the Vietnam War, the Korean War and World War II.
