There is still time available for Cambridge residents who are interested in applying for the 2014 City of Cambridge Scholarship. The scholarship, which provides financial assistance to residents of Cambridge who wish to pursue a post-secondary education, typically provides recipients with thousands of dollars to help pay for higher education costs. Although the city has not said how much it will be offering toward scholarships in 2014, it awarded 60 scholarships of $2,500 in 2013.
To apply for a City of Cambridge Scholarship, you must be a resident of Cambridge who is attending or who has received admittance to an accredited education institution beyond high school. You may also apply for the scholarship if you have an application pending. You simply must be enrolled or accepted by the award date of May 2014. There are no restrictions in terms of age, but you are not eligible if you have received a City Scholarship Award in the past.
In addition to completing the application form, you must also submit a transcript from your high school when applying for the scholarship. If you have attended college or any other post-secondary institution, you must submit a transcript from that institution as well. Each application also requires a student evaluation, which is to be completed by a high school or college counselor or advisor, a teacher or professor, a member of the clergy, or a professional associate. Finally, you must submit a completed financial aid questionnaire along with your application.
The City of Cambridge Scholarship is administered by the Finance Department, with a Scholarship Committee determining which residents are rewarded with a scholarship. The Scholarship Committee, which consists of six Cambridge residents who are appointed by the City Manager, is responsible for reviewing all applications and ranking these applicants based on academic achievement, community and extracurricular activities, financial need and special circumstances. The committee members do not see the names of the applicants, thereby ensuring they are reviewed fairly and without bias.
