YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City
YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City offers an opportunity to sample delicious foods from a variety of participating restaurants in Somerville that are ran by immigrants. Some of the countries represented include Ethiopia, Italy, Mexico, Nepal and Portugal.
The YUM event takes place at the Arts at the Armory on Thursday, April 6th, starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $50 in advance or $55 at the door. Tickets include samples from all of the represented restaurants, local entertainment from around the world and access to the silent auction and raffle.
4th Annual: We Create! Celebrating Women in the Arts
A community-based and process-oriented festival, We Create features the works of a select group of female artists in Massachusetts. Taking place in the first week of April every year, the event celebrates renowned and upcoming artists from Massachusetts. Music, film, dance and media arts are represented during the festival, which has a theme of Hidden Stories in 2017.
This year’s We Create! Celebrating Women in the Arts festival will take place April 7th and 8th in Hibernian Hall, which is located at 184 Dudley Street in Boston.
Super Megafest Comic Con
New England’s celebration of comics and pop culture, the Super Megafest Comic Con features celebrities and items for sale related to comics, movies, television, sci-fi, wrestling and rock & roll. The event will also offer opportunities for celebrity autograph signings, photo ops and scheduled celebrity Q & A sessions. At this year’s event, X-Men and other Marvel and DC writers and artists will provide panel discussions while also mingling with costumed fans.
The Super Megafast Comic Con takes place April 7th through the 9th. Advance ticketholders may pre-register on Friday starting at noon, with Friday admission being 3:00 pm for SPEED Pass ticketholders and 4:00 pm for advance ticketholders and general admission. The event takes place at the Royal Plaza Trade Convention Center & Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel, which is located at 181 Boston Post Road in Marlborough.
Making Glass Eggs
Diablos Glass School is offering many opportunities to make glass eggs in time for Easter. With all classes being offered on April 9, there are three one-day workshops to choose from. These include:
- Easter Eggs Flame Working: Introduces students to torch-work and small sculpture suing the egg shape and traditional egg decorative designs to create several Easter eggs. Class size is limited to 9. Course fee: $130. Meets from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
- Easter Eggs Fused Glass: Focuses on creating flat oval egg shapes embellished with colorful Bullseye glass. Class size is limited to 10. Course fee: $75. Meets from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
- Glass Easter Eggs: Students create a family heirloom for Easter in the traditional form from Eastern European history. No experience necessary. Class size is limited to 9. Course fee: $145. Meets from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
