Known as the “Witch Capital,” Salem is a popular destination among those who are looking for something fun and exciting to do during the Halloween season. While the annual Haunted Happenings Grand Parade symbolically represents the kick off of the Halloween season in Salem, there are plenty of other activities taking place throughout the season. So, if you missed the 2014 Haunted Happenings Grand Parade in Salem on October 2nd, there are still many other activities for you to enjoy.
Festival of the Dead
The Festival of the Dead kicks off on October 18th with its Spectral Evidence: Ghost Hunting 101 event. Taking place at Hawthorne Hotel at 8:00 pm, ghost hunter, author and radio personality Ron Kolek will take you along with his team as you investigate the haunted city of Salem. The festival will continue with events throughout the month and will culminate with The Salem Witches Official Halloween Ball. Taking place on Halloween night at Hawthorne Hotel, the event starts at 7:30 and promises a night of magic, music and rituals.
Fiesta Shows Haunted Happenings Carnival
Located at the New Derby Street Lot next to Hess gas station, the Fiesta Shows Haunted Happenings Carnival starts October 17th and takes place every Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 9:00 pm and on weekends from 1:00 to 10:00 pm. The event features games, rides and carnival food.
Annual Psychic Fair and Witchcraft Expo
Every year, Museum Place Mall devotes the entire month of October to the Annual Psychic Fair and Witchcraft Expo. The expo features psychics, magical gifts and opportunities to meet and speak with practicing witches. Museum Place Mall is located at 176 Essex Street.
The Dark of Night
The Dark of Night takes places every Friday and Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 pm throughout the month of October. During the event, stories are told by costumed storytellers within three different cottages at Pioneer Village at Forest River Park. Tickets to the event, which is located at 23 West Avenue, are $12 each.
Tales at the Witch House
Tales at the Witch House takes place every Friday and Saturday throughout October from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Tours of the darkened rooms of the Witch House are performed every half hour and are led by costumed actors. The tour involves tales of superstition and mystery. The Witch House is located at 310 Essex Street.
