Heritage Museums & Gardens Offers Plenty for Families to do This Summer

shutterstock_746253There’s a whole lot of fun to be had at Heritage Museums & Gardens this summer. From behind-the-scenes tours to camps for the little ones, a trip to the museums within the next couple of months is certainly worthwhile.

If you are interested in learning more about Heritage’s antique auto collection that is currently in storage, now is the perfect time to take a closer look. From now until October 11th, curator Jennifer Madden will be providing one hour tours of the auto collection starting at 11:00 am every Saturday. The behind-the-scenes tour involves seeing approximately 20 cars as you learn little-known facts and hear stories about each automobiles. The fee for the tours, which include admission to the museum, is $10 for members and $25 for non-members. Non-member youth are admitted for $17.

Fridays are also filled with fun at the Heritage Museums & Gardens all through the rest of July and August. During this time, every Friday is designated as a Family Fun Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Family Fun Fridays feature musical performances on the Outdoor Concert Stage at 11:00 as well lawn games, special family activities and a chance to see Big Bugs and Wicked Plants. Some upcoming events include Cape Cod African Dance and Drumming on August 1st, Zak Morgan on August 9th and Ben Rudnick and Friends on August 15th.  The extra activities are all free with the price of admission.

Summer Museum Adventures for 4 through 7-year-olds is also being offered this summer. Taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday every week from mid-July through mid-August, the program offers both half-day and full-day opportunities for youngsters. The half-day program runs from 9:00 am to noon while the full-day program lasts until 3:00 pm. Parents can enroll their children for one week at a time or they can choose to enroll them for the entire session. Each week, the program focuses on a new theme, with each day offering games, science experiments, art projects, scavenger hunts, outdoor discovery and other fun activities. For members, the half-day program is $95 per week or $450 for all 5 weeks, while non-members pay $105 per week or $500 for all five weeks. The full-day program costs $190 per week or $900 for all five weeks, while non-members pay $210 per week or $1000 for all five weeks.

The Heritage Museums & Gardens is located at 67 Grove Street in Sandwich, Massachusetts. To get there from Boston, take the Southeast expressway/Route 93 South to Route 3 South. Continue until you go over the Sagamore Bridge and take Route 6 East to Exit 2 toward Sandwich/Route 130 North. Go left on the ramp and merge with Route 130. Stay on Route 130 for 1.5 miles until you reach a triangle intersection. Take a left and then another immediate left at Old Town Hall and onto Grove Street. Heritage will be on the left-hand side.
