The John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo will once again be coming to Boston. The free event typically attracts thousands of runners from around the country, with many checking out what the expo has to offer before participating in the Boston Marathon as either a runner or an observer.
Dubbed the “Best runner’s expo in the country” by Runner’s World magazine, the John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo typically draws in more than 100,000 people who wish to enjoy the seminars and to see what the expo’s vendors have to offer. With nearly 300 of the running industry’s top companies represented at the expo every year, it is the premier place to go for anyone who wants to purchase the best running gear available.
While the 2015 seminar topics have not been released yet, topics from last year included a Q&Z with the Boston Marathon Race Director and Operations Manager and discussions from Boston Marathon Legends. Other topics included “Yes you can! Inspiration with Team Hoyt” and “2013 Boston Marathon: Finish Line Physicians Perspective” by Lyle Micheli, MD from the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital.
With thousands of people expected to participate in this year’s event, it is important to make arrangements for accommodations as soon as possible. Some nearby accommodations include the Hilton Boston Back Bay, the Sheraton Boston Hotel and the Westin Copley Place.
The John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo is also the location where Boston Marathon runners pick up their bib numbers. To pick up their bibs, runners must bring a photo I.D. as well as the bib number card previously mailed to them. Special tables are set up at the expo center for runners to register their numbers and to pick up their t-shirts and race packets. Runners must pick up their bib numbers themselves during normal expo hours, but before the actual day of the race. After receiving their bibs, runners must ensure they are always visible when on B.A.A. buses and other B.A.A. vehicles. The bib must also remain visible when on the race course and when in the start area corrals.
The John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo takes place April 17, 18 and 19 in 2015. Show hours are from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday. The event takes place at the Hynes Convention Center, which is located at 900 Boylston Street in the Back Bay area. The Convention Center can be reached via the Green Line.
The John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo gives race enthusiasts the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the sport of running while also getting revved up for the Boston Marathon. Not only does the event provide visitors with the opportunity to view the products of a wide variety of vendors while also participating in interesting and informative seminars, but it also gives participants the opportunity to get a close look at all of the pre-race action as runners gather their bib numbers and prepare for the race.
