Boston Symphony Orchestra
The Boston Symphony Orchestra or BSO is an American orchestra based in Boston, MA. It is considered as one of the country’s five major symphony orchestras which belong to the “Big Five”. The BSO was founded in the year 1881, and until today, it gives great honor to the City of Boston. The orchestra often plays its concerts at Boston’s Symphony Hall, and just like what has been mentioned earlier, it is the resident orchestra for the Tanglewood Music Festival. Thus, you can find them playing during summer at the Tanglewood Music Center.
The BSO was founded by Henry Lee Higginson. The very first conductor was George Henschel. For the orchestra, Henschel made an innovative orchestral seating chart. But the reputation greatly increased during the music directorship of Serge Koussevitzky. Over one million radio listeners tuned in whenever the BSO performed live concerts for radio broadcast.
